Current Needs

HOUSTON
Children around the country are going back to school soon.  Some dread the thought because their families cannot afford basic school supplies and clothes.  But you can be the answer to their prayers!  Simply purchase a backpack and/or some school supplies and drop them off at our office in Houston. We will make sure they get to children who need them!  We are also accepting school uniforms in new or good used condition.  Email Vickie at vickie@somebodycares.org for more information.

HAITI
Aid is still badly needed to help Haiti rebuild from the devastating earthquake that shook the nation in January 2010.  Please review the projects below and consider supporting one!

Sponsor a Pastor:  Pastors in Haiti have been living in harsh conditions and caring for thousand so traumatized people since the earthquake.  From experience we know how vital it is to give front line workers a break from the ever present need so they can be refreshed and renewed for the long haul.  Somebody Cares is sponsoring 8 front line pastors to a conference in the Dominican Republic in September.  Doug Stringer will be on-site to personally minister to them as well as others.  Transportation, lodging, food and conference registration for each pastor is $600.  Somebody Cares is committed to sponsoring 8 pastors at the conference.  Please help us do that by sponsoring a pastor for this much needed break.

Homes for Haitian Families:  $2,700 can provide a secure home for a Haitian family.  Many families are still living in tents and makeshift homes since the earthquake and are subjected to the elements as well as crime.  You can provide a family a safe place to call home again for just $2,700! (We have a match on the first 31 homes so those are only $1,200 each!)

GoodShepherd Mixed School:  266 girls and boys are enrolled in this elementary school in Port-au-Prince but without proper funding, it is struggling to stay open.

$48       can provide a Haitian child schooling for a full year!

$100     can pay a teacher to provide a classroom full of eager students (avg 33) with instruction for an entire month

$1,100  can keep the school open for all 266 children for a month

$13,200 will provide quality education for 266 boys and girls for a year!

Feeding and Education Program, Duval Artibonite: The International Evangelical Alliance in Haiti looks to start a feeding and education program for 150 poor children in the community of Duval, Artibonite.  Because of the extreme poverty caused by Hurricanes and the recent earthquake in this area, many families are in need.  The IEA is hoping to provide housing, food and education to these 150 children.

Orphanage and School, Foundation Crusade for Christ Haiti (FCCH): Croix-de-Bouquet is a town on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince.  Once primary agrarian, the cost of water has put many farms out of business in this community.  Families are having difficulty making ends meet and in despair send their children to the streets. Add children orphaned by the earthquake and there are thousands of children roaming the streets looking for their next meal, and falling prey to criminal and sexual predators.  FCCH looks to build, furnish and staff and orphanage and school to shelter, care for and equip 250 children for a better life.
